Edited by professors Everaldo de Oliveira Andrade, Francisco Alambert, and Marcelo Mari, this collection of essays, testimonials, and images explores the many facets of Mário Pedrosa.
As a political activist, a staunch defender of democracy and the interests of the working class; as an intellectual, indispensable to the establishment and deepening of art criticism in Brazil; as a person, a bold avant-gardist and a charismatic, unifying friend, interested in humanity and confident in the transformative power of art and political consciousness as engines of social revolution.
The book, which is a mosaic of different authors’ perspectives on Mário Pedrosa—neither biographical nor historical—was intended to express an aspect that is both contemporary and timeless, in close dialogue with the visual arts.
We were thus inspired by the image of the kaleidoscope: an optical device that, depending on movement and lighting, presents different visual effects and multiple combinations of images.
The idea resonates with the concept of a book that offers multiple perspectives on a figure who also possesses multiple facets. The graphic result expands and forms different abstract patterns throughout the interior.
