Márcia Alves was a member of the team of the Iconography and Museums Division, the embryo of the Museum of the City of São Paulo, between 1991 and 1992. At that time, the memory institutions of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture (Department of Historical Heritage, Iconography and Museums Division and Municipal Historical Archive) focused on collecting and analyzing environmental, social and urban conditions, expanding their repertoire with new perspectives.
The photographs that illustrate this exhibition are part of an archive of almost three thousand records produced by the author and which are under the care of MCSP, together with other collections of historical and contemporary photos that bear witness to the constant transformations of this capital.
With letters distributed around the exhibition space, the visual proposal evokes the notion of constellations of individuals spread out in the public space, a theme present in the essays on display. The colors allude to a certain melancholy and intimacy perceived in the records of a time not so distant, and the choice of material on which the captions are printed was due to the volume and texture it provides.
